Hey, I'm a ghostwriter ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hi, I'm Amber
I never knew I'd be getting paid to write when I grew up. But in hindsight, I was kind of a perfectionist in school, and English (AP, of course) was my favorite subject.
My writing career took off in 2005 when I joined the public relations team of a corporate real estate development firm. I guess my abnormally perfect email communication caught the boss's eye, so he sent me on assignment to see what I was made of. I blinked and became the company's corporate communications manager.
Then I started freelancing and racking up the side hustles with an SEO agency (because why not?). Again, I blinked and found myself as a project manager, lead copywriter, and quitter-of-the-9-to-5, working for one of the most amazing and talented boss Bs I've ever known (I still work with her today!).

I've honestly lost track of how many industries I've researched and how many clients I've written for over the years. I have a 'no fluff' policy, and if I'm being real, I rarely charge enough for the amount of research and work that goes into everything I write.
When I'm managing a project and working with a team of writers, nothing leaves my desk that I wouldn't confidently put my own name on. Sometimes that means completely rewriting something myself, and sometimes it results in an amazing teachable moment when writers strive to better themselves by accepting feedback and rising up in our industry.

Because I specialize in digital content, I've seen SEO best practices change drastically over the years. And yet, I've barely adjusted my writing style. Like most writers, I breathed a heavy sigh of relief when I no longer had to work awkward keywords into my writing.
Now that Google finally got smart about understanding context and search intent, it's never been more true that timely, helpful and relevant content really is the name of the game.
And that's the stuff I've been writing and advocating for all along.
See why my job is awesome?
The most amazing part about a career in digital marketing has been the ability to stay home and raise my children. When I'm not working, you can find this #GirlMom to two reading high fantasy, gardening, cooking, and hiking the North Georgia mountains.
Let's talk about the elephant in the room... AI

AI tools like ChatGPT are just that: tools.
They're never going to replace the human element necessary for developing quality content. If ChatGPT-generated blogs start inundating the SERPs, we're all going to die of boredom.

But I do think they have a place in a writer's toolbox, especially in the early phases of research and outlining. And sometimes it's hard for us writers to self-edit, so tools like Google's "Shorten" feature in Labs are not only helpful, but can be eye-opening as well (I probably should have used it when writing this bio page...)

All that to say, I don't use AI to "write" my content. AI content is flat and robotic and absolutely not a replacement for hiring a good writer. Resist the temptation to save a few bucks.
"I was writing relevant content before Google said it was the cool thing to do."
